Her Best Move (2007)

Fifteen year-old soccer prodigy, Sara Davis, is being pressured by her dad to become one of the youngest people ever to make the development team for the U.S. National Team. When she doesn't make it she is devastated, for her father.
In the mean time she is trying to get a life, because up to know soccer has dominated everything. When she hears a boy talking negatively about her she dumps a plate of food on his head in the cafeteria.
Dad then finds out someone got hurt and she has another chance at making the team. One on one workouts begin again in earnest. Then Sara meets a boy and soccer may not be that important.
One really interesting and very real part of the story line was Sara and another girl (and their families) actually cheering against each other, even though they were on the same team, because both were going out for the same team.
As Sara rounds out her life, so does her father. He begins to get more balance in his life which incluse spending time with his wife. In the final state cup game Sara and her rival both score one for the team. With a few seconds left in the game Sara passes to her rival in a 2 on 1 fast break and they win the game. By making the pass, she passed on moving to California and the training camp, and all that that went with it. She chose to live like a normal kid, and that was her best move.
Not a bad movie. Much better than I thought it was going to be.
