Santiago is an illegal immigrant who the Barrios section of Los Angeles. He works with his father in his landscaping business. But Santiago has a true passion - soccer.
A former English player and scout happens to see him playing in the park one day and convinces him to come to England for a try out. After some ups and downs he makes the Newcastle United premier team. He hangs around with the star of the team, who parties way too much for his own good or for the team.
When his father, back home, dies of a heart attack, Santiago is crushed. But then he gathers strength. he must prove that his father, who had no faith in him, was wrong.
Before you know it Santiago is starting against Liverpool and living the dream, but Newcastle goes down 2 - 1, but Santiago makes a great pass to tie it up. With seconds left to play Santiago makes a penalty kick to win the game. While he's walking off the field he is handed a phone and his grandmother in LA tellss him that his father has watched his last game on TV before he died.
Disney-like, but overall a pretty good soccer movie.
